How to Prepare — Section by Section
1. Verbal Reasoning (40 marks)
- Vocabulary: Learn 15–20 new words daily. Use the Barron's GRE wordlist (Basic section) or Dawn vocabulary columns.
- Synonyms/Antonyms: Practice Dogars NTS book — it has the most repeated NTS vocabulary. Pay attention to context clues.
- Reading Comprehension: Read Dawn editorial daily (600–800 words). Practice answering "what the passage says" not "what you know."
- Grammar: Master subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and preposition use. English Grammar in Use (Murphy) is the best resource.
- Analogies: Practice the relationship logic — word:synonym, part:whole, cause:effect, tool:function patterns.
2. Quantitative Reasoning (40 marks)
- Arithmetic: Fractions, decimals, LCM/HCF, percentage, profit/loss — these are the most common NTS quantitative topics.
- Ratios & Proportions: Direct/inverse proportion, mixture problems, partnership — appear in almost every NTS test.
- Speed & Distance: Practice train problems, relative speed, average speed calculations — 2–3 questions per test.
- Basic Algebra: Solving for x, linear equations, simple quadratics — Matric-level algebra is sufficient.
- Speed Strategy: If a quantitative question takes more than 2 minutes — skip it and return later. Never get stuck on one question.
3. Analytical Reasoning (20 marks)
- Number Series: Identify the pattern (arithmetic, geometric, alternating) and predict the next number. Practice 50+ series before the exam.
- Letter/Symbol Series: Alphabetical patterns — count positions (A=1, B=2...) and find the rule.
- Logical Deduction: "All A are B, some B are C — what must be true?" Use Venn diagram sketches to visualize.
- Data Sufficiency: Decide if the given statements are sufficient to answer the question — logic, not calculation.
